So I wanted to write this review for other ev6 owners. Long story short I bailed on my order of the Tesla I had installed a gen 3 Tesla wall charger in preparation to take ownership of the Tesla but it did not work out and I denied the Tesla and kept the wall charger just in case. I bought an ev6 and I love it so I bought this adapter knowing that my wall charger charges at Max rate of 48 w. My rundown of how to make it work is somewhat like this. When I first plugged it in my wall charger had a blue light and said charging unsuccessful. I decided to update the firmware manually on my wall charger and I clicked access options through the commissioning wizard using Tesla's instructions. On the commissioning wizard you need to make sure that all vehicles can access your charger not just Tesla. I'm not sure if this is 100% necessary but I did it anyway. Next I fiddled around for a while and could not get it to work. I decided to change the circuit breaker size to lower the Watts. At 30 Watts it finally seemed to start charging successfully. From the Tesla commissioning wizard I changed the wattage incrementally until I got to 48 w. The charging still works successfully. So my thoughts though overall is that I actually think I was doing a sequence wrong and the wattage did not matter in the end. Here is my sequence now to charge successfully. I get home I turn off my car and I plug in the Tesla charger using this adapter. The light will turn blue and after a few seconds the car will say charging unsuccessful. I make sure I have my keys in hand and without holding the brake I just hit the power button on the. Accessory mode turns on. After a few moments I am able to remove my charger from the car as it was locked previously. I plug it back in after a few seconds and wait for a few. Almost always the charging starts then on the Tesla wall charger and I can see all the green lights light up and it charges at full capacity of 48 w or 11 KW per hour. I am not 100% sure if the car needs to be off when it's installed first and then the car is on when the charger is put in the second time. This seems to be the sequence of events that allows the charger to actually charge. I had almost called customer support a few times on this but this stepwise pattern for me seems to make it work every time and it charges at 48 w which is higher than the other adapter I saw here on Amazon. It works perfectly and it charges very quickly. Hope this helps any other personI purchased this adapter to use when needed on my 2022 Kia EV6.The adapter did not work as instructed, but the reviews herein helped and ultimately I did get it to work (repeating here in case others have similar issues with their current or future KIA EVs):-Turn off engine-Open charging port on vehicle-Connect adapter to Tesla charger-Wait at least 30 seconds-Plug into vehicle-Wait to hear “charging unsuccessful” audio message-Get in vehicle and start engine-Charging confirmed (see dashboard)-Turn off engine (to charge more quickly)I was running at about 9.7kwh which is very similar to my Juicebox 40 level 2 home charger. Apparently from what I have read (unconfirmed), this has to do with the EV6 and not the adapter specifically so I didn’t take points off for that. That said, I had some concerns that support helped clarify. The Tesla chargers you see almost everywhere (and posted to this review) appear to be rated for up to 80amps while this adapter maxes out at 48amps. Even with loss, that theoretically presents a potential issue of damaging or destroying the adapter (or much worse).I reached out to Lectron and they sent me the user manual for the Tesla wall charger, explicitly instructing me to turn the rotary dial down to a maximum of 8 to reduce the amps on the charger itself. The issue is that this isn’t possible in any setting other than your home or where you have access to your electrical panel because you are told to turn off the power source and open the face of the Tesla charger to manually turn a dial inside down to no more than level 8.This is all confusing and concerning because given the lack of that access, this adapter would effectively be useless outside your own residence. It’s quite likely to fry and for over $150 and a 1 year warranty (which probably wouldn’t cover this since technically you’re using it outside specifications), seems quite wasteful. If, and only if, this information is correct, this adapter would be pretty much useless for it’s intended purpose.Updated 6/22/22: Lectron support spoke with an engineer and claim that there is no risk to both the vehicle and adapter using the Tesla Wall Charger. I wasn’t necessarily concerned about the vehicle, simply because it is the vehicle that negotiates the power draw and is rated significantly above anything a level 2 charger provides, but didn’t want the adapter to fry (and potentially cause damage).I guess the short version of the story is that the adapter works, but if you have an EV6 or similarly platformed vehicle from Kia or Hyundai (now or upcoming), you may need to take a few extra steps to get it to charge your vehicle.I was going to stay at a hotel with level 2 Tesla chargers and finally decided to buy one of these adapters so I could get the free over night charging. Worked great, so very happy with it. I read it is best to get the 48 amp to make sure you don't have any issues. There is a hole to put a small lock on the connection between the adapter and your car. BUT there is not a way to secure the tesla plug to the adapter, so someone COULD come by and unplug your car in a way that could damage it. There should be some way to prevent someone from unplugging the Tesla plug part from your adapter while it is still plugged into your car. Due to this I am only giving 4 stars. My PHEV only charges at 20amps, so doesn't have to have as much load as it could. But it seems to charge fine and haven't noticed any issues with heat or anything.Only docking it 1 star because it doesn't slide in and out of the charging port quite as easily as the stock J1772 charger that came with my car does. Very happy though, allows me to share my Telsa charger with my PHEV w/o having to unplug and switch the charging cables every time.I've followed the instructions and always plug this into the Tesla charging cable PRIOR to plugging into my PHEV, and I've never had an issue with charging.I’ve found that my Volvo XC40 Recharge takes longer establishing the handshake using a Tesla level 2 EVSE and this adapter than the EVSE supplied with the vehicle. Latches for securing adapter to the Tesla plug and for securing the J1772 adapter to the charge port.As much as this item states it is shipped from within Canada, it was actually shipped from the US and incurred $90 in duty taxes. If this was shipping from outside Canada, it should have clearly stated. Very disappointed with the misleading advertising.Update:After bringing this to the attention of the sellers, their customer service provided a refund for the import charges, as such I have changed my rating as well. With regards to the overall product it looks well made and is definitely a more convenient compact design. I have yet to use this and will update once I have.Update 2:I have now had the opportunity to use this adapter, and must say that it does what it is meant for. The J1772 plug was in use by someone else leaving a Tesla charger vacant, I was able to use that and get charged back up and back on the road.I love the compact size, it truly makes it easy to pack away in the car if you’re doing a long trip with the entire family and baggage in the car.I was fooled by their compatibility claims and purchased one only to quickly learn the truth. Now they want to charge me a 20% Restocking Fee because I discovered their compatibility claims are FALSE. Do your own due diligence and read through the reviews. Those that got bit by their claims bailed and bought Tesla Tap units that DO WORK. This is because those include a "Bypass Circuit" which tricks the Tesla charger into compatibility mode apparently and thereby DOES allow you to charge at all the advertised charges they claim to work with. You have been warned !I read a lot of reviews before selecting this item, so I only have personal experience using this product and not others. As there is a small price premium on this version over the others, I was hoping for a hassle-free purchase that would work the first time --- and it did! It's a compact design, which I like. No cables or unnecessary length, which makes it easy to fit in your glove box for easy access. I use this device daily as I have access to Level 2 Tesla EV chargers at home and near my house, so I tend to use this more so than a charging station with a J1772 plug. Because it is indeed more expensive than the other adapters, I had to rate it 4/5 for value, but sometimes you get what you pay for, so it might be worth it!I attempt to use it to recharge my EV using my neighbor Tesla wall charger, I made 4 attempts to get a charge but it did not work. I followed the instructions that came with the unit. It does not work…we needed an adapter for a Wrangler 4xe to plug into a tesla electrical charger. This works like a charm, charges the jeep in 2.5 hours.
